The experience

Remembrance is the protagonist of this activity. In fact, for an Emiliano-Romagnolo, the Parma ham sandwich or a piece of bread and cheese is the snack that has been handed down from generation to generation. Precisely for this reason, the journey to rediscover the roots is intended to be a sensory experience that starts with smell, taste and finally sight. The choice of these three museums is meant to be a bit of a journey back in time, where the flavors are those of our ancestors made of simplicity and tradition.

The history goes back as far as Roman times. Hams cured in the Parma area were sought after and prized throughout the empire; in the early medieval period Benedictine monks fine-tuned the process of making Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese.

First stop Langhirano cradle of prosciutto: in the former Foro Boario, a stone and terracotta building, you will visit the Museum of Prosciutto and Salumi, after seeing with your own eyes the birth of the world’s finest prosciutto. After the visit comes snack and tasting time! The first small workshop between history and flavor begins: warm, fragrant bread becomes the tool for creating small works of art, joined by those who know about cooking to help you create your own “root sandwich” to include in your travel memories!

Second stop, Soragna, the Via Emilia and the Po, near the birthplace of Giuseppe Verdi, inside a 19th-century building we discover the Parmigiano museum. As it is not only a cultural visit but also a sensory one, you will participate in a tasting workshop that will allow you to use 2 senses, taste and smell, to understand the different seasonalities of Parmigiano: blindfolded, you will do 4 cheese tastings to immerse yourself in taste, but above all to bring your senses back far away, to those family tales that taste of warm milk, laughter at the table, and dialect. In one word, from home.

Still intoxicated by the memories and flavors you will make your last stop at the Pasta Museum, in Collecchio. Here you will rediscover the origins of one of the foods that represent Italy in the world, and with your eyes illuminated by the many colors and shapes, it will be easy to get lost among the spaghetti, penne, and macaroni. You will surely find space once again to grasp the connection that cuisine and roots maintain over time.

After rediscovering ancient recipes and curiosities we set off on the return journey with a light heart, a clear mind, and many experiences to tell back home, because really this activity brings us to understand the journey we are taking which is from home to home!
