The experience
Your trip to the Museum of the Porcini Mushroom PGI in Borgotaro begins with a symbolic and etymological introduction to the name “porcini”.
Continuing, in the section dedicated to the forest, you will discover the taxonomy and natural habitats of the mushroom through models and detailed maps.
In the section dedicated to the collection, you will get to know the mushroom hunter through the exhibition of typical tools, photographs and historical curiosities, including references to the Farnese and popular beliefs.
Finally, in the section on processing, you will explore the techniques of harvesting, drying and preserving porcini mushrooms, with documents, photos and testimonies of historic local processing companies, which will show you the evolution and economic importance of this activity.

1. Traditional Cooking Workshop with Porcini Mushrooms IGP
Preparation of traditional local recipes using IGP porcini mushrooms, with stories and anecdotes related to the emigrant families of the area.
2. Mushroom Conservation Workshop as in the Past
Traditional techniques of drying and preserving mushrooms, with stories of how these practices were handed down in Emilian families.
3. Laboratory of History and Mycology of Porcini Mushrooms PGI
A historical and scientific study of porcini mushrooms and their cultural significance for local communities, with testimonies of emigrants.
4. Workshop of Craftsmanship and Tradition
Creation of handicrafts and souvenirs using dried PGI porcini mushrooms and local materials, with stories of emigrants who carried on these traditions.
5. Guided Tasting of Porcini Mushrooms with Tales of Emigration
Tasting experience in which stories of emigrants are told while tasting dishes based on IGP porcini mushrooms prepared according to traditional recipes.
6. Children’s Workshop on Family Traditions
Playful and educational activities for children focused on the traditions related to PGI porcini mushrooms, with stories of emigrant families.
7. Storytelling Workshop: Stories and Legends of Mushrooms
Tales and legends related to porcini mushrooms and local traditions, with a focus on the stories of emigrants who return to their roots.
