After years of forced hiatus, Sarsina is back to dressing up as an ancient Rome! On Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 July 2025, the historic center hosted the long-awaited Roman Festival, now in its 18th edition. The initiative, organized by the Pro Loco with the precious contribution of the Sarsina Women’s Council, has transformed the streets of the town into a real dive into the past.
Among legionnaires, gladiators, artisans, dancers and jugglers, visitors were able to live an immersive and fascinating experience that celebrated the Roman roots of Plautus’ hometown. Historical re-enactments, costume parades and traveling shows provided exciting moments, while the food stand and local restaurants delighted palates with dishes inspired by ancient Rome.
Particularly significant was the participation of the women of the Sarsina Women’s Council, protagonists of a special project: the handcrafted creation of Roman costumes worn during the festival. Thanks to the sartorial skills recovered from those who worked in local factories in the past, it was possible to make historical clothes of great quality. A gesture of commitment and solidarity: the proceeds of the activity were entirely donated to charity.
The Roman Festival also had the honor of inaugurating the Plautus Festival, which will continue in Sarsina until August 16, thus creating an ideal bridge between classical culture and popular tradition.
This edition marked a new beginning, with a renewed two-day formula and an even richer program. Not only entertainment, but also enhancement of the territory: the recent discovery of the Capitolium of Sarsina has made the reflection on the Roman heritage of the village even more current, magnificently told also inside the National Archaeological Museum.
The Roman Festival 2025 has thus confirmed itself as an unmissable event, capable of uniting past and present, memory and community. A special thanks goes to all the volunteers, citizens, associations and visitors who have contributed to making this return magical.
