Established in 2022 with the amendments to Regional Law no. 5/2015, the Day of Emilia-Romagna in the world aims to strengthen the identity of Emilia-Romagna people living abroad and strengthen relations with their land of origin. The date chosen is July 2, in memory of the tragedy of the ship Arandora Star sunk off the English coast on July 2, 1940, by a German submarine.
This year many events are scheduled, both in Emilia-Romagna and around the world, for the second celebration of the Regional Day of Emilia-Romagna in the world.
Events in Emilia-Romagna: from 29 June to 2 July, a series of initiatives will be held between Borgo Val di Taro, Bardi and Compiano for the commemoration of the victims of the Arandora Star, round tables, film screenings and debates, organized in collaboration with Italea, a program to promote roots tourism, launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation as part of the PNRR project and funded by NextGenerationEU.
